Preservation Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions                                     
Deadline: May 1, 2012

Preservation Assistance Grants help small and mid-sized institutions improve their ability to care for their humanities collections.  PAGs may fund:  general preservation assessment surveys; conservation treatment needs assessment surveys; developing environmental monitoring programs; purchasing environmental monitoring equipment; writing disaster plans; purchasing storage furniture and preservation supplies; drafting long-range conservation plans; and educating and training staff members.  Grant Amount/Period:  up to $6,000/ up to 18 months.  No matching required.  Contact:  202-606-8570, preservation@neh.gov       

Preservation and Access Research and Development Grants
Deadline:  TBA 2012 (tentative date May 19, 2012)  

Preservation and Access Research and Development Grants support collaborative projects that address major challenges in preserving or providing access to humanities collections and resources.  Projects should address specific problems, devise procedures for best practices, and serve the needs of a significant segment of humanists.  Grant Amount/Period: $350,000/up to 3 years.  Cost sharing is generally necessary.  Contact: 202-606-8570, preservation@neh.gov   

Preservation and Access Education and Training Grants                                     Deadline: TBA 2012 (tentative date June 28, 2012)   
Preservation and Access Education and Training Grants help staff at cultural institutions obtain the knowledge and skills they need to care for humanities collections.  Grants may fund:  regional preservation field services; graduate programs in preservation and conservation; and workshops that address preservation topics such as collections care training, preventive and sustainable conservation strategies, disaster preparedness training, digital preservation initiatives, and the care of recorded sound and moving image collections.  Grant Amount/Period:  up to $125,000 (regional preservation field services organizations $50,000-250,000)/2 years.  Matching required.  Contact:  202-606-8570, preservation@neh.gov       

Humanities Collections and Reference Resources Grants
Deadline: TBA 2012 (tentative date July 20, 2012)  
Humanities Collections and Reference Resources Grants may fund efforts to organize, describe, catalog, and preserve collections with an emphasis on improving public access through digitization and the creation of databases.  Grants may fund the implementation of preservation measures such as basic rehousing, reformatting, and conservation treatments of individual items as part of a larger project that leads to enhanced access.  Grant Amount/Period:  $350,000/up to 3 years.  Matching required.  Contact:  202-606-8570, preservation@neh.gov 

Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections
Deadline: TBA 2012 (tentative date December 1, 2012)
Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections (SCHC) Grants support preventive conservation measures that prolong the useful life of humanities collections.  Of particular interest in this round of grants will be projects that explore and implement sustainable preventive preservation strategies.  Planning Grants can be used to support planning projects, including activities such as site visits, planning sessions, monitoring, testing, project-specific research, and preliminary designs for implementation projects. Grant Amount/Period: up to $40,000/up to two years. 

Implementation Grants can be used to improve museum environmental conditions including HVAC, lighting, storage systems, security, and disaster preparedness.  Grant Amount/Period: up to $350,000/up to five years. Matching required.  Contact: 202-606-8570, preservation@neh.gov
